Review: Mystery Man

June 2, 2012 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Mystery Man
Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ok so by the end of this book it was seriously bordering on 2.5 stars. Here’s the thing I wanted to love this book. I started it and I was raving! It was sexy, it was mysterious, and yes… It made me laugh in places and I started out loving this heroine. By the end, not so much!

A year and a half ago, Gwen met her mystery man … Knew nothing about him but brought him home and had the most amazing sex ever… He was gone the next day and she didn’t even know his name. But then he would randomly show up in the middle of the night and then disappear…. For a year and a half… Finally, her delinquent sister gets herself in a heap of shit and she puts herself on the radar of unfriendly people trying to clean up the mess. Suddenly her mystery man is in her life on a regular basis, because he’s some sort of commando.. We never really find out exactly what he does, only that he’s loaded, does private work and has his own ‘boys’.

This stuff isn’t even what bothered me the most. What irritated me was the overuse of the words babe/baby, the sudden influx of hot men, because all the men were sexy and hot and suddenly wanting her, I mean seriously…ALL of the hot men wanted to be her man, and the fact this this book would not end. When it was supposed to end in my head and turned the page thinking that the credits page would be there, nope… Another chapter. There were some definite editing errors, and if i notice it you know its definitely there because i can usually ignore that stuff. But again this stuff isn’t even what did it for me.

What pissed me off the most was the big relationship climax. That asshole placed every bit of blame on her and when she stuck up for herself he was condescending and walked out. AND SHE EVENTUALLY AGREED WITH HIM. It was suddenly her need to keep him at arms length that was the problem, not his need for the same thing WTF ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I was so angry by the end of the book.

With all that said, I didn’t hate this… Honestly I loved her in the beginning she was snarky and witty and there were parts that made me laugh out loud… but there were definitely some things that bothered me and I couldn’t overlook while reading this.

I’m going to try another one in this series to see if it gets less irritating.
