Review: Onyx (Lux #2)

August 23, 2012 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Onyx (Lux, #2)Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars for me! I have been waiting patiently not so patiently for Onyx to come out since I read Obsidian, and let me just say that I wasn’t disappointed one bit!

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

All the teasing, the promo videos, the pictures had me dying to read this and see where Armentrout was going to take the story and from the first sentence Daemon whispers in this book…

“Good morning Kitten.”

I knew I wasn’t coming up for air until it was done.

In book two of the Lux series, something has happened that has created a connection between Damon and Katy and it’s wreaking all kinds of havoc on her life. She’s convinced that Daemon’s new found interest in her stems from the bond they have, while Daemon denies that entirely.

The Department of Defense is in town and nosing around at the same time that Kat is trying to control these new found powers and still maintain some semblance of a regular life. Enter Blake. From the get go I was positive there was something off about him, and I was right… and so was Daemon.

Daemon in the first book was purposefully mean to Katy … fighting the feelings he was starting to have for her, and in this book, for the most part he’s basically said ‘F’it.

But this Daemon…this one who wouldn’t give up was kind and gentle, funny and – dear God – thoughtful.”

The chemistry between these two was perfect. When they finally give in to each other… it was everything I had hoped it would be. He’s everything I had hoped he would be for her.

Daemon tugged the comforter up, hesitating as he stared down at me. “Do you feel better?”

“Yeah,” I whispered, unable to look away. With him standing over me, his eyes such a stark contrast with the darkness, he looked like something straight out of my dreams…or the books I read.

His throat worked slowly. “Can I…?” There was a pause and my heart stuttered. “Can I just hold you? That’s all… That’s all I want.”

While the relationship between Daemon and Kat is a big part of this book, the bigger plot here is what is happening around them. The DOD and figuring out their agenda is on everyone’s mind and when Katy sees someone who isn’t supposed to be alive… well, it just flips everything on it’s axis for them all.

One thing that grated on me… Daemon’s intentional use of any other ‘B’ name for Blake except Blake. It was funny and cute the first few times, but after a bit it got old. I get that it was used a bit to show his jealousy of what was going on between Katy and Blake, but I kind of sighed every time I saw it towards the middle – end of the book.

UM… and hello that bonus bit at the end from Daemon!!!

“You have no idea how badly I want this,” I told her, bringing the tips of my fingers down her chest and over her stomach. So beautiful. “I think I’ve actually dreamed about it. Crazy, huh?”

She lifted a small hand, running the pads of her fingers down my cheek. I turned into the touch, pressing a kiss against the palm of her hand, and then I found her mouth again. This kiss was different, more intense, and Kat – aw, God – Kat came alive. Hips rocking together, our bodies fitted so tightly there was a good chance I would slip into my true form and knock out the power in the entire state.

*wipes drool*

I thought this book had a perfect combination of romance, suspense, action and drama… and of course my favorite… a swoony boy to drool over. Definitely go give the Lux series a read! You won’t be disappointed!
