For fans of Marie Lu and James Dashner comes the first book in an epic new series.   "Brace yourself. You're about to be immersed in a mindscape that you'll never want to leave." --Marie Lu, New York Times bestselling author of the Legend trilogy   This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she'd have to do.   This afternoon, her planet was invaded.   The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra--who are barely even talking to each other--are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.   But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what's really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.   Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents--including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more--Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes. From the Hardcover edition.

How in the hell am I supposed to review this book.

Amazing.

Incredible.

Unique.

Fascinating.

I got this gorgeous ARC at BEA this year and Its been staring at me from my bookshelves since JUNE you guys!!

I finally said F&%K it and grabbed it because I was sick of seeing everyone talking about the awesomeness inside its pages.

I can’t even imagine how to explain it to you though.

Illuminae tells the story of the destruction of the Kerenza colony… this happened one year ago from where the story begins. As the reader you are presented with interviews, medical reports, ship schematics, emails, personal messages, journal pages and ship communications to tell the full story.

And what a story it is.

At the heart of Illuminae is a bit of a love story… I found myself so enthralled with both Ezra and Kady that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. But seriously can we talk for a second about Ezra??? I have a bit of a crush on him myself I mean page 116 solidified that. And Kady is super smart and a total hacker which I loved.

But there’s more than that… A mutating plague has attacked the survivors of the Kerenza colony who are trapped on the remaining ships… and Kady and Ezra find themselves separated and desperate to find out the truth to what is happening to those around them.

And then there is also AIDAN – he is the ships Artificial Intelligence and it’s hard to tell what his ultimate goal is here. I mean if you’ve seen 2001 A Space Odyssey you know all about H.A.L. and what he did, and at times throughout you kind of question whether AIDAN has gone crazy, but the rationale the AI uses ultimately makes sense when you look at its actions through a lens with no emotion.

Though this book is ginormous… 599 pages, you will steamroll right through them because I guarantee you won’t want to put this down once you start it. And of course Kristoff and Kaufman will leave you begging for the next book, which can’t come soon enough. I do want to offer a bit of a side note… this story has a lot of violence so if that’s not quite your thing, maybe be forewarned on that aspect. If you can get past that, I think you’re going to love the crazy and unique story that these authors have created.

Pre-order this, put your name on the library waitlist, whatever you have to do to get it in your hands as quick as possible do it. You’re not going to want to miss out on this when it releases.

Thank you Random House for having these at BEA!!
