HEXED (THE WITCH HUNTER #1)

By: Michelle Krys
Publication Date: June 10, 2014

Hexed (Hexed, #1)
Summary
If high school is all about social status, Indigo Blackwood has it made. Sure, her quirky mom owns an occult shop, and a nerd just won’t stop trying to be her friend, but Indie is a popular cheerleader with a football-star boyfriend and a social circle powerful enough to ruin everyone at school. Who wouldn’t want to be her?

Then a guy dies right before her eyes. And the dusty old family Bible her mom is freakishly possessive of is stolen. But it’s when a frustratingly sexy stranger named Bishop enters Indie’s world that she learns her destiny involves a lot more than pom-poms and parties. If she doesn’t get the Bible back, every witch on the planet will die. And that’s seriously bad news for Indie, because according to Bishop, she’s a witch too.

Suddenly forced into a centuries-old war between witches and sorcerers, Indie’s about to uncover the many dark truths about her life—and a future unlike any she ever imagined on top of the cheer pyramid.

Erin’s Thoughts

Hexed by Michelle Krys

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hexed by Michelle Krys is the first book in The Witch Hunter series. I thought Krys did a good job of introducing us to the main characters while still leaving a bit of mystery. There is quite a bit of action in this one and if you like witches, you might want to check this one out.

Because of something she saw, Indigo finds her life turned upside down. Not only does she find out that she could potentially be a witch but the family bible that her mother is super protective of is missing. Add to that the fact that these strange people keep coming into her life and she is definitely

Indigo is one of those characters that I liked from the beginning. While she was initially only concerned about cheerleading and her boyfriend Devon, she is forced to grow up quickly and face something she never thought she would have to…what it means to be a witch. Not only that, but she is also forced to face the impact that it, and everything that is happening, has on her family.

Bishop….I have to admit, I wasn’t really sure about him initially. He does come off a bit stalkery and mysterious but once he starts talking, I found I liked him. He is sarcastic, smart, and not afraid to say what he feels. I do wish we would have gotten a better understanding of why he is in the situation he is in now…with his Uncle and The Family. I feel like there is a story there and hopefully we will learn more in the next book.

The bad guys are definitely bad here. They happen to be a part of the Priory and they will do anything to get their hands on the bible. When they do, and find out that there is a protection spell on it, they immediately go after Indigo and kidnap her mother. As Indigo tries to figure out what to do, she decides to rely on Bishop to help her and their relationship starts to build.

As the story progresses, I liked how Indigo changes and grows. She moves from being someone only worried about her boyfriend and her reputation to someone who has to grow up and fight to protect the people she loves. As she comes face to face with people wanting to hurt her as well as people close to her that have been lying to her, she has to decide what she will do about it as she has a very small circle of people she can lean on at this point.

One thing I didn’t really get was Bianca. I know I’m not supposed to like her but I really, really, really didn’t like her. To be honest, she didn’t really add any value to the story outside of creating an antagonist for Indigo and having someone be the “Mean Girl” of the story. Which she absolutely was.

I don’t want to give anything away about the things that happen in this story. If you are looking for a fast paced story that has you wondering what all the secrets are about as well as who can be trusted, definitely check this one out. There are witches, tattooed warlocks, and magic all rolled into one story…I know I will absolutely check out the next book in the series when I am able.
