We are huge fans of Marissa Meyer and when we found out she was writing a book about the Queen of Hearts we just knew we had to have it in our hands! Before we dive into the tour post, we want to tell you about the book:

Long before she was the terror of Wonderland — the infamous Queen of Hearts — she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king's marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship.
Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
As huge fans of Marissa Meyer we knew we had to get our hands on Heartless! The Lunar Chronicles is one of the best YA retellings out there so we knew we wanted to see what she could do with the Queen of Hearts! Â This is set as a prequel to Alice in Wonderland and while I can’t tell if this is going to eventually be a series, we honestly wouldn’t mind more from this world and Meyer’s amazing storytelling!
The story itself is so dark and beautiful and if you’re a fan of Meyer’s you’re absolutely going to love this, there is no doubt in my mind about that. Â I have to admit something here. Â So often I forget how much I love Meyer’s writing when I’m not reading a book by her, but the minute I start something by her, I just can’t seem to put it down. Â From her amazing world building to her incredibly layered and complex characters, she is just a master of her craft.
I’m going to be honest and tell you that I don’t love Alice in Wonderland. Â I know… please don’t be mad! I just never really got into the original story and while I don’t mind it, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever read the original book, so all this is based on my seeing the movies! Â Now, that said, I absolutely loved what Meyer does with this story, and like I said, I probably would love more from her in this world. Â I’m also going to tell you that the end of this story is so very heartbreaking and tragic and so if you’re dead set on a “happy ever after” that might be something you’ll want to consider before grabbing it.
I really loved that we get to see the origin of the Queen of Hearts in this story.  When you’re immersed in the Alice In Wonderland (or any movie for that matter) world you don’t necessarily wonder why the villains are the way they are and Meyer really builds a pretty amazing backstory for her. The best thing about Meyer’s retellings though is that while you get hints of the original story, she completely creates her own only giving you bits and pieces to recognize the origin.
Fans of Marissa Meyer are definitely going to love this and I think Meyer is definitely going to get some new fans when people start reading this.
