Why I love YA Books

November 13, 2012 by Jaime 1 Comment

I know that this isn’t what you’re expecting in a post from me, but Beth Revis (@bethrevis) is giving away almost fifty signed YA books from authors I adore and one way to enter is to blog about the reason I love YA Books.

So… why do I love YA books?

I’m an adult… most of the time.  I can freely admit that I’m over thirty and maybe even closer to forty … maybe.  But I love YA Books – Don’t get me wrong, I love all kinds of books, but I have a special place in my heart for YA books.  I’m not sure why this is, maybe it’s because I didn’t read a lot when I was a young adult, or maybe it’s just because young at heart … whatever it is, the majority of the books I read are geared toward an audience much younger than I am.

And I’m okay with that.

Some of my favorite books that I’ve read recently are young adult and the reasons I love them vary, but mainly they tend to take me away from the things that are going on in my life.  I can disappear into the life of the protagonist and escape relatively unscathed when I’m done… unless it’s a series of course or The Fault In Our Stars by John Green.   That book had me aching for days.

I’ve read YA books this year that have had me thinking about them days later, sobbing while I’m reading, and even laughing along at some of the best dialogue I’ve read.  These books have delved into the topics of death, addiction, love, and even living and surviving in a dystopian world.

I love YA books – I love them because there are tons of  talented authors writing in this genre and the stories are captivating and so well-written.

I love YA books regardless of the stigma that is associated with it.  Like I said, I’m not exactly YA material and I’m sure there are some people (Joel Stein) who think that an adult who reads YA is lacking in intelligence and maturity, but I will disagree to my last breath.  I appreciate the escape these books offer.

So there… that’s why I love YA! Do you read YA books? what was your favorite one this year?  I’d love to hear from you! Make sure you head on over to Beth Revis’s blog and enter to win this fabulous contest!
