Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Intimidating Books

July 2, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome and wonderful people over at The Broke and The Bookish

This week the topic is Top Ten Most Intimidating Books.  For a variety of different reasons, these are the books we have put off reading… it could be size, hype, number of books in a series…

This book came with a glossary and several maps.  I appreciate all of this and in an normal situation, I would find this extra helpful but I cracked it open after being on a plane for 11 hours and had to make the decision to hold off.  I will start this…soon.  I just couldn’t do it when I originally planned to.
This book has received rave reviews from everyone.  The reason I am intimidated by this book is that everyone has talked about how many tears were shed while reading this.  I do a lot of my reading while on a plane or traveling so the thing that worries me is being a crying mess in front of others.  Because of this, I have put off reading this book but it will happen.
These books make the list only because they are series books.  I have heard great things about all but I have so many books to read that I worry about starting another series.
The Argeneau series has 19 books so far…I have no idea if there will be more but my mind can’t wrap itself around the fact that if I start this, there will be 19 books to read.  That is really what is making me hold off.
I’ve had this series on my to read list for a while and I think the thing that is making me hold off on this one is the subject matter.  All of the reviews I have scanned have given this high marks but I feel like I need to prepare myself for this one.
This book is another of those that everyone I know loves.  I have also heard from quite a few of them that it takes a bit to get into this one so I have made the conscious decision to not read this series yet.  It will happen eventually because there is so much love out there for this series and I need to know what it is all about but I can’t make myself start it yet.

I’ve been sitting on this series FOR. EVER. I have them on my bookshelf because I’ve heard how amazing they are… but they are also kinda long and I’m afraid I won’t love them and so then I don’t pick them up when I’m looking for something.

I loved loved loved Graffiti Moon – which means I love Cath Crowley. I want to keep that love and so even though I have this and I open it look at the words, I haven’t actually read this book.  I want to… I do.

So… tell us in the comments … What books intimidate you? Are there books you want to read but haven’t for some reason?  Did we miss some good ones?
