Review: Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed #11)

November 30, 2012 by Jaime 3 Comments

Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed, #11)Edge of Dawn by Lara Adrian
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I picked up this book I was prepared to dislike it… I’m not even lying about that. I had my skeptical face on the whole first chapter. Then I realized that it still included some of my favorite characters from the previous books!

Edge of Dawn is set 20 years in the future from where Darker After Midnight left off, and this worried me. I was afraid it wouldn’t be as fun and as interesting and have characters that I liked. I was wrong. What Adrian is doing is giving us the future of The Order.

When I finished book 10 I wasn’t sure there were going to be anymore… I mean it left off at a good spot to end. I talked about this with the girls in ‘book club’ and we speculated on what the plans were and if it would continue.

Edge of Dawn is the story of Mira and Kellan. Remember them? Nope? I didn’t either until I got a little more information. See while the younger Breed mates and warriors were in the stories, they didn’t have much action in the stories so it took me a bit to warm up and remember who I was reading about. Adrian does a good job of reminding us though as the story progresses.

In the future, the government and The Order are working together to live peacefully… or that’s the impression most people have. There are things happening that could disrupt whatever amount of peace there might have been.

Mira was a bit of an arc in Veil of Midnight (#5) where she is the girl that Nikolai and Renata are determined to take care of. In Edge of Dawn, we learn Mira as a squad captain has become a fierce warrior in her own right. Losing the one person she had loved since childhood has scarred her in ways that will never heal. A random assignment brings her face-to-face with the man she has always loved… the man she thought was dead and he’s not who she ever expected he would be.

Kellan and Mira have to make their way, taking sides and figuring out what they truly believe in. The catch is that, if you remember, looking in Mira’s eyes provides the viewer with a glimpse of their future. With both having seen what the future has in store for them, will they make the right choices?

I was so excited to see the return of some of the other Order members that you know and love. Lucan of course and Nikolai and their breedmates and several others.

I think this was an excellent start to the next chapter in the Midnight Breed series and I’m excited to see where Adrian takes this going forward.

Definitely a must read for fans of BDB and other similar Vampire Series books. (And to be honest, I love these more than BDB)Go check them out now!

Thank you to Netgalley and Delacorte Press for the advance copy of this book.
