REVIEW: Dare To Resist by Laura Kaye (ADULT)

May 10, 2014 by Jaime Leave a Comment

DARE TO RESIST
By: Laura Kaye
Publication Date: May 12, 2014

SUMMARY
Trapped and tempted, this battle of wills rages all night long…

Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks click on a level that defies logic. There are only two problems. One, he’s her older brother’s irritating best friend, and two, they’re bidding on the same military security services contract.

When the competition heats up, Colton is torn between wanting to strangle Kady (and her annoying brilliance) and kissing her into submission. Which is a bad idea for a million reasons, because Kady’ssubmission is exactly what he craves. Being trapped in a tiny motel room with the object of his darkest fantasies will require every ounce of his restraint.

Kady doesn’t want his restraint, but Colton knows better. She deserves love, marriage, and a white picket fence—three things Colton can’t give her. But her proximity and the memory of their steamy near-miss three years ago slowly destroys his resolve. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep his hands off…or his heart closed.

Jaime’s Thoughts
Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dare to Resist is an upcoming Entangled Brazen book and is part of a series of books all written by different authors but they revolve around this pair… Kady and Colton.

Laura Kaye’s contribution to this was exactly what I was looking for when I picked it up.

Kady Dresco has had a crush on Colton Brooks most of her life, but he’s her brother’s best friend… and the competition. But three years ago they had an encounter that she hasn’t been able to forget and just when she thought things were going somewhere she got the brush off… and it hurt. Since then, she’s never been able to connect with a guy the way she did with him.

Colton has watched Kady grow from a gangly teen into a beautiful and talented woman… and three years ago he had his chance with her, but reality put a wrench in his plans. His mind knows he’s not the right guy for her but he can’t seem to tell his body and his heart the same thing. With sexual interests that run to the side of rough and the looming presence of her brother he puts his attraction to her behind him.

Competing for the same military contract has them at a new facility in the middle of nowhere, and when a monsoon arrives, there is only a tiny motel to wait out the storm. But fate intervenes and forces them to spend the night in the same room and both of them wonder if they will be able to put aside both their bickering and their insane attraction for each other and just enjoy the company.

I love this trope so much you guys – The brother’s best friend falls for the younger sister – it gets me every single time, and Kaye did an amazing job with this. It’s rare that I give a novella 5 stars but this one just hit every right note for me. Kady is smart and independent and confident and that is the trifecta of best heroines around. Colton is sweet and sexy for sure… but that rough and dirty side of him.. that will have you all begging for more. Add in the perfect amount of snark and sarcasm, teasing and taunting and you just can’t go wrong with this.

There isn’t much in the drama department which also makes this the best novella ever.

That and the hot hot sex.

“You aren’t getting my cock until you come again. I want you to come so hard my whole hand is wet with it.”

If you’re looking for a quick, steamy read… something that it appears will be kicking off quite the collection of stories, definitely pick up Dare To Resist – I know I’ll be reading this one again someday soon!

Thank you to Entangled for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!
