December Month Of Giveaways!! Kasie West Interview & Giveaway

December 1, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

So… there should be no surprise to you all that I’m including Kasie West in our December Celebration right? And kicking off the whole thing with her just felt right.  Since I found Pivot Point in January of this year, my life has become so much better knowing that Kasie West is out there writing amazing stories that make me fall in love with fictional characters.  In the land of contemporary YA, she’s among the best and brightest and I can’t say enough about the books she has written.  It would be an understatement to say I’m excited about what she has coming up for us readers!! I had the opportunity to ask Kasie a few questions… lets just say I want to sit around eating Jr. Mints and watching the Adam Show (the voice) with her…  but first, here are her books:

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

Life can change in a split second.

Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot . . . and a future that could change everything.

For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can out-run, out-score, and outwit every boy she knows–including her long-time neighbor, and honorary fourth brother, Braden.

But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn’t know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chi-chi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and bedazzlers. Even stranger, she’s spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pick-up game.

To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can’t solve Charlie’s biggest problem: she’s falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

Now… On to the interview!!

First! Can you tell us a little bit about On The Fence, your upcoming Contemporary due out in 2014?
On The Fence is a best friends fall in love book. It’s about a girl who has three older brothers and is just one of the boys. She loves sports and dares and driving fast and is totally blind sided when she realizes she has feelings for her friend. It’s about late night chats in the backyard with a fence separating them. I love this book.
I’ve read Split Second, (OMG) were you always planning on Pivot Point having a second book?
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it. I wrote Pivot Point as a stand alone but knew there was potential for a second. I had an idea, just in case I was asked to write a sequel. But apparently I’m meaner than my editor because I thought Pivot Point ended fine. I hear people talk of a cliffhanger ending but I honestly don’t feel it is. I think what happens next is very much implied and that all the conflicts of the book are solved. That said, I’m glad my editor wanted a second because I love Split Second.
What was your inspiration for On The Fence?
That’s a great question. One I don’t really have a clear answer for like with most of my books. I think I just love boy-next-door kind of books. And I love best friends falling for each other. Those two elements worked their way into my brain and formed a story.
You recently made the announcement for a new book, The Fill-In Boyfriend – can you tell us a little bit about it?
The Fill-In Boyfriend is about a girl who gets dumped in the parking lot of prom by her boyfriend who her friends have never met before. It’s the boy she’s been bragging about for months—her long-distance relationship. In her desperation to prove he exists, she snags the first boy she sees, a guy who is waiting in a car to give his sister a ride home from prom, and basically forces him to be her date. It’s a fun read. I love the boy in this book. He was a lot of fun to write.
If you could introduce one of your characters to another character from another book, who would it be and why?
This is a hard question. Why do you ask me hard questions? J I think I’d love to introduce Caymen to Anna from Anna and the French Kiss. I think they’d be really good friends. Caymen could use a few more good friends.
What is the one thing readers would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m not a re-reader. Once I’ve read a book I rarely read it again. I just feel like there are so many other books that I haven’t read yet that I need to get to before I re-read ones I’ve already read. Sometimes I’ll re-read favorite passages or scenes but rare is the book that I’ll sit down and re-read in its entirety.
What authors have influenced you?
I’ve read so many books over my lifetime that it’s hard to narrow it down. I’m a big Sarah Dessen fan. I love Charles Dickens. He’s my author boyfriend. Jane Austen makes me happy. I think every book I read influencing me in some way.
What is the last book that you recommended to someone?
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Beautiful book.
Any advice for aspiring writers?
If you want it, get it. Did that sound dirty? That wasn’t supposed to sound dirty. Let me rephrase that. If writing is important to you, don’t give up, keep writing. It will happen.
Are you working on anything right now that you can tell us about?
Right now I’m working on The Fill-In Boyfriend. I’m actually avoiding edits as I type this.
Do you read a lot and if so, what are some of your favorite books?
Yes. I read all the time. I love all kinds of different books and have many many favorites. But I’ll pick a few favorites I read this year. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I adored this book. Everything about it. Reboot by Amy Tintera was fabulous. I shouldn’t tease you with one that hasn’t come out yet, but add it to your list because Exile by Kevin Emerson was one of my very favorites I read this year. It comes out in April.
If you could have written any book out in the world today, what would you pick and why?
The Fault in Our Stars. That book is gorgeous and beautifully written and amazing. I wish I could claim it.
Do you have a dream cast for your books?
This is the most boring answer ever, but I really don’t. I have a picture of my characters in my head and no actor/actress quite matches it. If any of my books were ever made into movies, I’m sure I’d be very happy with whoever was chosen.
