Adult & YA Holiday Read Recommendations

November 16, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you guys, but once the end of November rolls around, I like to dive into the holiday themed books!  Sometimes it’s easy to find them, and sometimes… not so much!  But I started a list early this year of books that fall into the Christmas/New Years Theme that I’m always looking for and I thought I’d share them with you!  Some of them I’ve read, but others I plan to try and get to this winter!! I hope you’ll join me in reading some of them!  If I’ve read them, I’ll include a link to my review, but if I’ve missed something you think should be on this list, please let me know in the comments! I love having a stock of books to read for special occasions!

Sleigh Bells in the Snow by Sarah Morgan – I’m currently reading this for a blog tour – and I’m loving it!  Stay tuned for my review and a special giveaway!!

Once upon a time, Christmas was Kayla Green’s favorite time of year. Now all the workaholic wants for Christmas is for it to be over—as fast as possible! So when duty calls her to snowy Vermont to close a deal with a new client, Kayla is grateful for an excuse to avoid the holidays for another year.

Jackson O’Neil left a thriving business behind to return home and salvage his family’s resort—it’s in his blood, and he can’t let it fail. Now that he’s got marketing whiz Kayla Green working with him to put Snow Crystal on the map, success is on the horizon. The fact they strike enough sparks off each other to power all the Christmas lights in Vermont is just an added bonus.

Kayla might be an expert at her job, but she’s out of her depth with Jackson—he makes her crave the happy-ever-after she once dreamed of, and it’s terrifying. As the snowflakes continue to swirl, will the woman who doesn’t believe in the magic of Christmas finally fall under its spell?

When It’s Right by Jeanette Grey – Cosmo and I read this in early November and we both loved loved loved it.  It’s a novella so it won’t take you days to read it but we love Grey’s wonderfully realistic and passionate characters! Pick this one up on release day!

“He’s the last resolution she intends to break. “

Still licking his wounds after a messy breakup, Nate is at loose ends for New Year’s Eve and itching for a wild and crazy adventure to jolt him out of his rut. Now if he could only convince his best friend, Cassie, to break away for an impromptu road trip to Times Square.

Fun as it sounds, Cassie is reluctant to accept Nate’s invitation. Little does he know, she’s made resolutions of her own-resolutions about finally getting over her long-standing crush on him. Telling herself this trip will be the perfect “last hurrah,” she packs her bag.

The trip is a fiasco from the outset. A car that won’t start, a freak storm that strands them on the side of the road, and a long drive with too much time for true confessions. Cassie’s rocks Nate to the core, leaving him wondering if the best thing that ever happened to him has been right in front of him all along.

Warning: Contains two best friends, a secret crush, and a road trip that leads to tow trucks, unexpected hotel-room sharing, epiphanies, sex, and more.

Room at the Inn by Ruthie Knox – This is another Novella, but it’s from Ruthie Knox so you have to know it’s amazing! I read this one last year and it’s a must read for the holiday season!

Ambitious and driven, Carson Vance couldn’t wait to escape the small town where he was born. But now that Carson is back to spend Christmas with his ailing father, he must face all the people of Potter Falls he’s left behind. Topping that list is Julie Long, who’s sacrificed so much for Carson’s family, and whose heart he broke once upon a time. Now the proprietor of the local inn, Julie has blossomed from a shy schoolgirl into a successful, seductive, independent woman—everything that Carson’s looking for in a relationship. But despite several steamy encounters under the mistletoe, Julie refuses to believe in happily ever after. Now Carson must convince Julie that he’s back for good—and that he wants her in his life for all the holidays to come.

Snowbound with  the CEO by Shannon Stacey – I haven’t read this one yet, but I am hoping to this month!  I know some people don’t like the millionaire trope, but I don’t mind it, and you can’t go wrong with Shannon Stacey – I can’t wait to pick this one up!

Adrian Blackstone built a million-dollar business with hard work and determination—and by remaining professional at all times. Denying his longtime attraction to his beautiful executive assistant hasn’t been easy but it’s necessary. She’s indispensable, and he can’t stand the thought of losing her if things didn’t work out.

For more than a year, Rachel Carter has been quietly dreaming of all the ways she’ll never seduce her sexy, buttoned-up boss. She’s worked too hard to get where she is to cross that line, no matter how badly she’d like to act on her fantasies. But then a wicked snowstorm leaves them stranded in a romantic winter wonderland…

What begins as a single kiss and a few bad Santa jokes turns into a weekend full of breathless passion and hopes for something more. But with Monday comes a return to their complicated reality—and Adrian must prove that promises made are promises kept, especially at Christmastime.

Under the Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis – Um… Jill Shalvis and Lucky Harbor.  That is all.  Kidding – lol but seriously if you haven’t read ANY of the Lucky Harbor books go now.  This is a novella and a quick & lovely read!

JUST ONE MORE KISS

There’s no place like home for the holidays. And the Lucky Harbor Bed & Breakfast is bursting with festive lights and good cheer. But for Mia, Christmas is turning out to be anything other than merry and bright. Her recent break-up with her boyfriend Nick has made her return bittersweet. But then a surprise arrives, when Nick follows her to town bearing gifts-and asking for forgiveness.

Nick grew up without a family of his own so he’s overwhelmed by the love that Mia receives from all her relatives, gathered together to celebrate the season. Under their watchful eyes, Nick finds earning back her trust the hardest thing he’s ever had to do. If he succeeds, he will receive the greatest gift of all, Mia’s love for a lifetime.

Wanderlust by Kitty French – I love love love Kitty French – I know Cosmo will agree with me on this statement – we first found her through her Knight & Play series and when I saw this novella on netgalley I quickly requested it!  I loved this too, but again, it’s a short story, so it won’t take you days to read it!

Ruby has been in love with Ford since their university days, but she hasn’t seen her former best friend in years–not since the one unforgettable kiss they shared right before he went off globe-trotting and she stayed behind. When he returns to town unexpectedly for their friends’ New Year’s Eve wedding, the sparks between them ignite, but can her wanderer ever settle down? Ford has never forgotten Ruby, or the kiss that changed everything between them, despite the many women he has tried to erase her with. His return to England for the wedding means a second chance with Ruby–but will one passion-filled evening with her be enough, or has he finally found his home?

Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman – I found this one at the end of last year, but I didn’t get a chance to read it … so I stocked it away to save for this year… It’s at the top of my list for the holidays!!

Lyric Whetsone only had eyes for Quinn Sobel’s brother Oliver, until a car crash took Oliver’s life on New Year’s Eve. Then, a moment of shared grief between Quinn and Lyric became something more impassioned, something that frightened Quinn so much he ran from Lyric’s bed and her life, disappearing for four long years.

Now Quinn’s back for another New Year’s Eve, struggling for closure, desperate to leave his grief in the past and make amends with the girl of his dreams.

But Lyric has a secret–one that could drive Quinn from her life forever. Will Quinn run away from the love and acceptance he’s always wanted…or will he claim his New Year’s kiss and make her his at midnight?

Season of Second Chances by Brighton Walsh – Let’s just call this one Hot Single Dad!  This one comes out December 5th just in time for everyone to enjoy him over the holidays, and believe me when I say you will enjoy him.  Please note – we’re giving away copies of this one if you head over to the giveaway page! Plus you can read an excerpt here

When a storm strands Claire Hanlin in Chicago on Christmas Eve, the last person she expects to come to her rescue is Logan Dawes, the man she almost married two years ago. The chemistry between them is dangerously potent, but with nowhere else to go, Claire accepts Logan’s offer to stay with him for the night.

Back in the home they shared, surrounded by reminders of Logan and his young daughter, Claire begins to realize how much she misses the family she almost had. After a few cups of Christmas cheer, she falls right back into her ex’s arms—even though she knows it means setting herself up for heartbreak all over again.

The magic of the season has thrown him together with the woman he’s never stopped loving, and Logan’s not about to pass up this gift. He’s not the workaholic he was two years ago—his family comes first. Now all he has to do is prove it to Claire, before the snow stops and she flies out of his life for good.

Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan  – How about some YA Recommendations too!! I have heard lovely things about this book, and I’m excited to read it… I won a signed copy last year and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf waiting for the right time – I mean… I can’t read winter books in the summer. I’m just saying.  So this is also high up on the to read list this winter!

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors ofNick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson & Lauren Myracle – these are all authors I adore, and I won a copy of this book last winter as well!  It’s been on the same pile as Dash & Lily which means I get to read it very soon!

Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

Ex-mas by Kate Brian – I actually JUST found this one – I’m pretty excited to read it as well – It sounds like a cute Christmas read!  And everyone can use one of those right?

Two Exes. One holiday adventure. Merry Ex-Mas?

Seventeen-year-old Lila Beckwith’s parents just left for vacation, and Lila’s all set to throw the holiday party of the season. But when her Christmas-obsessed little brother, Cooper, discovers that global warming is melting the North Pole, he and his best friend, Tyler, take off on a runaway mission to save Santa.

Lila has to get Cooper safely home before her parents get back on Christmas Eve. But the only person who can help her is Tyler’s older brother, Beau — a.k.a. Lila’s musician, anti-everything ex-boyfriend.

It’ll take more than a Christmas miracle for Lila and Beau to overcome their differences and find their fugitive brothers. But could a journey destined for disaster help these polar opposites fall in love…all over again?

There you have it… my list of Holiday reads for the month of December! What will you be reading? Did I miss something that needs to be on my list for next year?  Let me know in the comments!!
