If you guys follow me on social media anywhere you may know about my obsession with this series… I absolutely love these books more than I could even put into words.  The world that Schwab has created is absolutely amazing and the characters GAH – I finished A Darker Shade of Magic and immediately wanted to reread it and when I was lucky enough to read an early copy of A Gathering of Shadows, I dropped everything to read!

Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift, and into Black London.
In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. Restless, and having given up smuggling, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks like she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games—an extravagant international competition of magic, meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries—a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.
But while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life, and those who were thought to be forever gone have returned. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night reappears in the morning, and so it seems Black London has risen again—meaning that another London must fall.
We had the opportunity as part of this blog tour, to ask Victoria one question and I seriously went back and forth on what I just had to know, but ultimately I was able to decide on the thing that I wanted to know most! Â Are you ready?
How did A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC come about, what was your inspiration? What made you think you had to write this story?
I am kind of like a squirrel—stay with me here—in that I don’t get my stories all in one vivid burst of inspiration. Instead I gather and hoard tiny details, kernels of plot, until I have enough to feed the story. One of the first pieces I got for ADSOM was an image, a moment, out of nowhere, of a man in a coat walking through a wall and colliding with a girl. I had that image in my head for more than a year before I’d gathered the other pieces up—magic, parallel worlds, a thief—and realized that this image I had tucked away was part of this other pile of thoughts. After that, it all came together, as if my brain had been seeding the story slowly in my head, without my knowing.
So because I went a little ordering crazy I actually have an extra copy of A Gathering of Shadows and an extra set of the collector cards that you got for pre-ordering the book, aren’t they AMAZING???
Anyway… one of you is going to win this prize pack – did I mention that the book is also signed? Â Because it is.
