Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome and wonderful people over at The Broke and The Bookish
This weeks topic is where we list the top ten books about friendship… This was a little harder than it seemed because almost all the books we read have some sort of friendship aspect to it but we were hoping to have the friendship be the main focus… we’ve got some amazing books picked out!
You’re probably wondering where I’m going with this one since every time I talk about this series I am usually gushing about Carswell Thorne but I wanted to call out the friendship between Cinder and Iko because I love it. Iko is an android and different because she has a personality and cares about Cinder (and Cinder cares about her). I thought the friendship between these two was perfect and I love how it carries through the whole series.
Yes – the story’s main characters Lucy and Ed definitely are the focus here but one of the pieces to this story that grabbed me was how it focused on the friendships. Lucy, Jazz, Daisy, and Dylan….all of them add something to this story.
You had to know this one would be on the list. I’m not sure what to say here other than these friends are most likely on some ultimate friends list somewhere. Yes there’s magic and danger but there is also an enduring friendship that exists between Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
What I loved the most about this story was that the bare bones of it, despite everything going on around these characters, is about friendship and how amazing it can be. And how rare is it that we see a YA book that hones in on that instead romance these days. It’s lovely to see a book that focuses on positive relationships and shows us characters who love each other unconditionally, yeah they may get mad at each other, but at the end of the day that doesn’t change their love for each other. Maybe One Day is about love, it’s about sisterhood and it’s about growing up and dealing with the shitty things that life sends your way.
This book will be on just about everyone’s list… but how can it be omitted? What I loved about this story was that it focused on friendship. Not just the superficial friendship of a couple of girls. I’m talking, deep down, life long, “I’d take a bullet for you” friendship and it’s done so amazingly well.
While I think this book tackles a lot of heavy subjects and issues, at the core of the story it’s about acceptance and love… which Charlie finds among his friends.
Sam Cruz is a player and Ally is a self-professed geek. It is hard to imagine these polar opposites being best friends but they make it work. While Sam is comfortable with his reputation, he is not prepared for the changes that Ally goes through when she breaks up with her boyfriend and asks Sam to “transform” her. I love the friends to more idea and Darling does a great job showing the transformation of Sam and Ally’s friendship.
The friendship between Gus and Issac was one of the parts of this story that I loved…who am I kidding, I loved the whole darn book but this just added to the list of reasons. I went through so many emotions when reading this book…so many in fact I never could go back and write a coherent review. With that said, I loved how supportive these guys were to each other and their friendship just adds a little something more (as if you needed it) to the already lovely story.
Love Love Love the friendships that we get to peek at in this series. Gansey’s love for his group of friends may be what brought them together initially, but the bond that has formed between them all and continues to develop is such an amazing thing to get the opportunity to read. In fact, I daresay it’s the best thing about this series for me.
Rose is willing to do anything for Lissa and it is evident from the very first page of the book of this series. Yes, personality-wise they are opposites but they are both loyal to each other and supportive of the decisions the other makes.
