When the four of us are together, in person or via the magic of the internet, the conversations almost always come back to books. We love them. We love the people who write them, the people who publish them, and the people who read them. In fact, we have so many feelings about books that we wanted to find a way to share our conversations with you! This is the sixth week of our new feature, hosted by Fiction Fare (Erin & Jaime) and Swoony Boys Podcast (Kassiah & Meg). Spotlight Sundayis about ALL things bookish. Each week we’ll post a topic, we’ll start the conversation by telling you some of our thoughts, and then it will be your turn to sound off in the comment section.

Memes…all that or just filler for “real” book blogging?
Meg: I LOVE MEMES. I mean that. I think that they are fun to read, fun to post, and even fun to host! (Shameless plug for Flashback Friday!) They let us highlights books that we don’t always get a chance to because of time constraints or other issues. They are also great for interaction and getting to know other bloggers! I love going to see what others have put on their lists and how close it is to my own list! Not all memes are created equal, but a few of my favorites are: Top Ten Tuesday, Book Bangin’, Waiting on Wednesday, and **cough** Flashback Friday **cough**. What about you guys?
Erin: I love them too. Â Sometimes it gets overwhelming with all of the different ones out there but to your point Meg – it is great to visit the other participating blogs and see what they are doing and picking for the memes. Â It also gives us all an opportunity to connect and interact…which is sometimes hard to do in the virtual world. Â What are some of your favorites? Â Outside of the ones we have going of course.
Kassiah: Erin, I think my favorite (besides ours LOL) is Waiting on Wednesday. It’s just exciting to share what we’re excited about with our friends and fellow book bloggers.
Erin: YES – Waiting on Wednesday…it’s good and bad for me because I get to see all the things people are waiting for BUT…that usually means I am adding more books to my to read list.
Jaime:  I have to agree with you guys – it’s probably the best way for me to get to other blogs and see what they’re all about.  I think that memes are an amazing way to network and meet other bloggers and get a feel for if they are compatible in taste to you.  I agree with Meg too, that it allows us to highlight some things that normally wouldn’t be featured.  Flashback Friday is a perfect example because these are books that we read years ago… possibly before we started our blogs, yet that doesn’t take away from how much we enjoyed them!
Kassiah: Â I love memes, too. Â I’ve noticed some “how to be a book blogger” posts and almost all of them say you shouldn’t participate in too many memes if your blog’s purpose is primarily to review books. Â I don’t think they’re filler, and honestly, it takes me longer to get stuff ready for a list-type meme (like Top Ten Tuesday) than to write a book review. Â I feel like our focus is on talking about books we love and are excited about, so whether that’s in an actual review, a top ten list, or a podcast, I feel like we’re promoting and spreading the love. Â
One thing I’m guilty of is not doing enough interaction with the other participants, and that’s something I definitely want to change.
Now that you’ve read some of our thoughts, let us know what you’re thinking in the comments below! We’ll be back next week with a brand new topic and lots more to talk about.
