The seductive story that started in The Masseuse continues...Anna Rossi knows that opening your heart only gets you hurt. But Alec Flynn is just too good to resist…It’s been three long months since Anna’s seen Alec, since he saved her life and lit up her soul with unquenchable desire. Being without him has left her on edge, but his bravery has motivated her to change her life and go after what she’s always wanted—a job where she can help people. She can’t wait to show Alec the woman she’s become in his absence, or to prove how much she’s missed him…Three months away has done nothing to slake Alec’s need for Anna. Unfortunately, it hasn’t made his life any less dangerous. The last thing he wants to do is hurt Anna, but if giving her up is the only way to save her, he’s not sure he can do that either. He’s determined to have her for as long as he can. Except his past is creeping up on him faster than he knows, and this time he may not be able to keep her from becoming collateral damage…
Jaime’s Thoughts
I hate you Sierra Kincade. I really do. I hate you for making me love these characters and then leaving me with all the feelings in this second book.
The Masseuse introduced us to Anna and Alec… they can only be described as combustible together… I mean the chemistry between these two is ridiculous. But Alec was paying the price for his involvement in some shady things in book 1 and Anna is left to figure out where they stand when he gets home.
Anna has started to make a new life for herself in Alec’s absence but he’s never far from her thoughts. She hopes that he’ll like the changes she’s made to the apartment and the connection she’s made with his father and his own actions and bravery have pushed her to make some changes for herself as well. She’s now got a job that she’s always wanted… one that can make a difference and help people.
The three months Alec has spent away from Anna have been torture, and seeing her for the first time proves that his hunger for her hasn’t subsided in the least. But one realization he has come to is that if he has to give her up to keep her safe, he will. It will kill him (and me) but he will.
The thing about these books that has me completely hooked is the intense passion between Anna and Alec. These two are just amazing together and Kincade completely gets you invested in not only their love story, but all the things that are happening around them. Things are definitely not smooth sailing upon Alec’s return. There is some awkwardness and tip-toeing around each other… three months apart will do that to you I suppose, but once they finally find that connection again it’s game on, and I found it hard to put this book down.
It was amazing to see Anna bloom in this book. The Masseuse was really about building the relationship and connection between Alec and Anna for me, and in The Distraction, we get to see Anna become someone she’s always wanted to be. She’s working with kids who need her help, and she’s creating friendships and bonding with people who she can count on and that’s a wonderful part of the story.
But there’s also a bit of a mystery and some suspense to this installment as well. Alec’s past is still affecting their lives in ways these two could never, ever have imagined.
And Alec… good lord this guy. I know some people may think he’s too alpha, but honestly he was the exact right mix for me. I loved his bossy side, but he also reveals a bit of a soft side that just endeared him even more to me.
If you’re looking for an amazing new voice in erotic romance, then you definitely will need to pick up this series. With steamy sex, an intriguing story, and amazing characters that will have you turning pages to learn more, The Body Works Trilogy is among my favorites in the erotic romance genre.
The Distraction arrives in February, and when you finish, come find me, we’ll commiserate together over everything! The Confession seriously can’t arrive fast enough!
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
What the WHAT!!! OMG that end. I’m pretty sure that Sierra Kincade is slightly evil.
The Distraction by Sierra Kincade is the second book in The Body Works trilogy and if you haven’t started this one yet, you are definitely missing out! It has two great (read: not perfect) characters, some mystery, and a lot of the sexy/swoony stuff. If you haven’t read book one, The Masseuse, stop here because I can’t promise that there won’t be spoilers.
If you recall Alec has been gone for a while and Anna has been anxiously been waiting for him to return. He surprisingly shows up on her (actually his) doorstep and things start to get crazy for Anna. Maxim Stein’s trial is pending and since Alec is a key witness, life for Alec and now Anna is becoming very dangerous.
As Alec and Anna try to stay out of danger, they are also trying to figure out how to have a relationship and that is probably one of the harder things for both of these characters as neither of them has been very successful at making them work. I loved seeing them try to figure it out and although it isn’t perfect, they still try to fight for what they want. I never questioned how much these two cared for each other and I think that is what makes me love them both.
I can’t really say much about what happens in this book – mostly because I don’t want to give anything away. There is definitely a killer ending on this book and I believe that Sierra Kincade might be slightly evil….It’s just a theory but I have evidence.
So read away everyone – this is a great adult series that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next for these characters!
Thank you to Berkley Trade and Netgalley for the review copy!
