She lives in Dallas with her husband and son. If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts—yeah, that’s it.
I absolutely loved this novella from Roni Loren. If you’ve read any of her other books, you already know she writes amazing stories, and this is not exception. It’s always harder to get into a novella for me, you don’t have as much time to get to know the characters, but Loren does an incredible job of introducing us to Natalie & Monroe and letting us get to know them.
I don’t even know what to tell you about Monroe, other than this boy has won me over big time.
Roni is super busy these days, as you’ll see when you read below, but we wanted to share a Q&A with you!
Describe Nice Girls Don’t Ride in 5 words.
Birthday + sexy biker + Austin = Yum
I absolutely loved Nice Girls Don’t Ride – What inspired you to write it?
Aw, thanks so much! This was one of those stories that kind of appeared out of nowhere for me. I needed to write a biker story for a boxed set (where this story first appeared), but I wasn’t in the mood for a broody, dark biker. I needed a fun story in my life. So I thought—hmm, what it said biker was hot and sexy but also funny and sweet and not at all what he seems like on first impression? Plus, I’ve wanted to write a story set in Austin for the longest time. I lived there for a few years and adored the city. It’s almost a character in the story.
What was your favorite scene to write and why?
I loved writing the scene when she finally tracks down her jerk of a boyfriend. I won’t give away what happens, but that was super fun to write. I also liked writing the scene in the food truck park because it showed Monroe at his best.
Did any of your characters surprise you by doing something you didn’t expect?
I think the depth of how sweet of a guy Monroe turned out to be surprised me. He had layers I didn’t know about when I first started writing him. I also love when side characters pop up and make me want to write their story. The girl who owns the cupcake truck is in the back of my head still. I want to write her story.
Can we expect more in the New Adult genre from you? (please say yes!)
: ) I don’t have official things on the schedule yet. But I love the New Adult genre and feel like there are more stories for me to write, including possible spin offs from this one. Also, my m/m romance that is coming out in June (YOURS ALL ALONG) has a very New Adult vibe. It’s a bookend structure story, which means I write present time then past time then present again. So the bulk of the story is actually when the two heroes are in college. So it’s an erotic story but NA vibe.
You can only read one book for the rest of your life… what is it?
Oh, noes. What is this horrible dystopian world where I’m only limited to one book? *dies* Honestly, in that situation, I’d probably just write my own stories so I wouldn’t get bored, lol. I’m actually not much of a re-reader even with my favorite books. But if I only had one, I’d probably pick something long like Outlander.
Do you have any strange writing habits?
When I’m struggling with a book or blocked, I cook a lot. Like my current work in progress is giving me fits, so bread has been baked, things have been pickled, from scratch stock has been made. It gets rid of the nervous energy and is mindless enough that I can think through story problems.
What are you currently reading?
I just finished up two Charlotte Stein books – Taken and Reawakening. I love her voice. Her books are sexy and funny and strange. So especially when I’m stressed out with deadlines, I like things that can make me laugh.
Any advice for aspiring writers?
Write, write, write. And read, read, read. It’s funny how many writers forget about that second one. If you don’t read, the well runs dry for writing. More specifically, I actually have lots to say about writing. So if anyone’s interested, I have over a hundred free articles on my website about all things writing.
What’s next for you? Are you working on anything right now that you can tell us about?
I have three releases the next three months, so lots of things coming! Next month, my rockstar story WANDERLUST is in the Brenda Novak Charity boxed set Sweet Seduction (all proceeds go to diabetes research), then in June, my first m/m novella YOURS ALL ALONG comes out. Then, in July, my next full-length book, CALL ON ME, comes out. It’s about a phone sex operator/single mom and a drummer—so much fun to write. And right now, I’m working on book one in a new series that will debut in 2016.
Favorites
Favorite Song (right now)
I just rediscovered Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One” so I’ve been listening to that a lot. It’s just such a gritty, emotional song. And Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” is the song that gives me the longest earworms—so not necessarily a favorite but I’m sure singing it a lot, lol.
Favorite Book (right now)
I have trouble picking favorites, but the one that stood out for me most recently was Prisoner by Annika Martin and Skye Warren. I also have been going through a Charlotte Stein kick.
Favorite TV Show/Movie
I was obsessed with Hindsight on VH1, which is about a girl who time travels back to her twenties in the 1990s. The 90s references are awesome as is the music. But the season ended, so I’m not watching it right now. (I think you can get it free on streaming if anyone wants to check it out.) Just finished up The Walking Dead as well. I tend to binge watch since I don’t get a lot of TV watching time in a normal night.
Favorite Word
Done. It’s what I’d like to be with this current work in progress, lol.
Favorite Color
Purple
Favorite Curse Word
Fuck. It’s just so multi-purpose. Like a good chef’s knife. : )
Thank you so much Roni for indulging us – we’re so excited for what you have coming around the corner!
TO celebrate the release I want to give a couple copies of this away! – You’re seriously going to love this!
