Top Ten Resolutions We Have For 2015 – We resolve to finally read these 10 books!!

January 5, 2016 by Erin 5 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome and wonderful people over at The Broke and The Bookish

I know that we’re not alone in a seriously bad habit that we have.  Buying books and then putting them on your shelves and not reading them.  Go ahead… raise your hand if you’re guilty.  Mines in the air!  This is the year we are going to read them though!  It’s one of our resolutions… (even if it isn’t yours Erin, I’m making it so).  So this week’s Top Ten list is a list of the books we own and have purchased and have been sitting on our shelves for much longer than they should have.  These are the books that will get read this year!

Jaime's Picks (1)

So I’ve broken my picks into two groups! The first group are all SERIES books that I am fail at!  Click on the covers to add to your Goodreads Shelves!

18243700 20613491  17290682 20518838203596611733182817378508

The Assassins Blade by Sarah J. Maas – ugh… you probably don’t want to know why I haven’t read these novellas yet… but I’ll tell you.  I’m a Chaol & Celaena ship all the way.  It kind of kills me a bit inside that she loved Sam… and please let us NOT talk about Queen of Shadows yet… *sobs*

Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini – I am super excited for this one. I know Erin loves it so I knew it had to be on my must read pile this year.

The Opal Mask by Jenny Lundquist –  This series has been on my TBR pile for quite some time, I actually just got the first book from my #otspsecretsister, having accidentally bought book 2 by accident.

The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh O’Brien –  I am really excited to start this one! I’ve heard it’s amazing and Caragh is so lovely, plus I have the first two books so I can dive in!

Remember Me by Romily Bernard – I love loved book 1 of this series, but I know book 3 is on the way so I’ve just been kind of holding out in wait for it to arrive… mostly because I don’t want to have to wait.

Talon by Julie Kagawa – I actually own the first two books of this series, and I have heard it’s pretty amazing and I really don’t expect any less because Julie Kagawa… I just … don’t have any excuse really.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater – Okay don’t yell at me… this was mostly intentional. I wanted to wait until it was closer to the release of The Raven King.  I’m hoping to read this one pretty early this year!

19695718 188124371723544817860739

More Than This by Patrick Ness – I was told that I HAVE TO READ THIS ONE.  I loved the other Patrick Ness books I’ve read so I’m pretty sure I’m going to love this!

This Side of Salvation by Jeri Smith-Ready – I have had this on my bookshelf for quite some time because I’m super intrigued by the premise.. .I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet, but this is the year!

Afterparty by Ann Redisch Stampler – I bought this as soon as it came out and then I put it on my shelf and forgot I had it.  I’m determined to get it read!

Servants of the Storm by Delilah S. Dawson – I’m pretty excited to get to this one this year.  This will be my first book by Delilah and I can’t wait to start it!

Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid – I had every intention of reading this in 2015 but I don’t know why I didn’t.  I’m going to get it read this year though and early!

The Wrong Side of Right by Jenn Marie Thorne – I have heard amazing things about this story, and I actually had it on my October to read pile, but things didn’t really work out and I missed out on some of my October plans.  I think this will be one of my early reads in 2016!

S by J.J. Abrams – I bought this book right when it came out because OMG the premise and the book and everything J.J. Abrams.  I’m so excited to get into this one because it’s one of those uniquely told stories and it’s two stories in one.  Click on the cover for all the details!

Jaime's Picks

Apparently I have a problem with buying series books and then not reading them right away.  Almost all of my books on my list are series books – some beginnings and some are the final books but regardless, I have these on my list to read this year!

shadowlands 1

Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands #1) by Sarah Fine

I have loved everything I have read by Sarah Fine so I don’t know why I haven’t started this book yet.  This book and the other two in the series will be at the top of my list for 2016.

ten

Ten Thousand Skies Above You (Firebird #2) by Claudia Gray

There were so many books I had on my October/November to read list that this one got lost in the shuffle.  I really liked book one of this series with the time travel and historical aspect so I am looking forward to reading this second book as soon as I can.

catalyst

Catalyst (Control #2) by Lydia Kang

This book has been sitting unread for way too long.  I actually attempted to pick it up about a month ago to read but had some review deadlines to meet so had to set it aside again.  I am motivated to find out what happens to Zel.

november
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
I have loved Colleen Hoover’s books since I read Slammed years ago and the second I know about a new book by her I buy it.  Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to read this book but it has been sitting on my shelf since November.
wings
Wings (Black City #3) by Elizabeth Richards
This is another series ender that I have been sitting on for a while. I am the worst when it comes to completing a series which is odd considering how much I usually need to know all the things!  This is one book I will be prioritizing this year.
archived
The Archived (The Archived #1) by Victoria Schwab
I read a chapter sampler of this book before it came out and loved it so I bought the book when it came out but for some reason I ended up putting this on my bookshelf and losing it in the mix.  I have already pulled it out and put it on top of my shelf so I don’t forget how much I want to read this.
4.0.1
False Sight (False Memory #2) by Dan Krokos
Book one reminded me of the Bourne series and I immediately wanted to read book two.  Surprise – I bought it and forgot I had it on my shelf.  This is another one that I have pulled to the front so I am reminded to read this (and book 3) when I have a break in my schedule.
warrior  demon
The Warrior Heir (The Heir Chronicles #1) by Cinda Williams Chima
The Demon King (The Seven Realms #1) by Cinda Williams Chima
These books have been on my shelf for a while now and I have committed to myself that I will start the series this year.  I have heard such great things about them and can’t wait to start both of these.
lucky  animal
Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor #1) by Jill Shalvis
Animal Attractions (Animal Magnetism #2) by Jill Shalvis
Jaime has been on me to read Jill Shalvis for years and I did read one of her books and yes, I loved it.  I don’t normally default to picking up a romance book which is why these have been sitting on my shelf for so long.  I am going to make a concentrated effort to read these this year – I promise!
city
City of a Thousand Dolls (Bhinian Empire #1) by Miriam Forster
This book was actually on my list for 2015 and it was another one that got pushed to the bottom of the stack every month but no more!  I have it in writing here that this is going to the top of my list for 2016.
There you go guys, it’s official – these are the books that HAVE to be read this year for sure!  I don’t know about you, but I put a stack of the titles that I want to  read that aren’t for review in a separate pile to make sure when I’m in the mood for one, I grab from there!  Have you read any of these?  What did you think?  Are you hoping to read something that’s currently on your shelves?  Let us know everything in the comments!
