Top Ten Favorite New To Me Authors I Read In 2012

December 11, 2012 by Jaime 5 Comments

The awesome blog, Broke and Bookish hosts a weekly Top Ten Tuesday meme and I’ve been trying to do it each week! This week the topic is …

Top Ten Favorite New To Me Authors I Read In 2012

Favorites. In my mind I link favorite with love and because of that, these authors are on my top ten list today.  It is especially hard to judge authors by only one book, but if I’m dying to get my hands on book two, they definitely belong here!

1. Tracey Garvis-Graves – after reading On the Island I told every single person I knew to read it. I couldn’t help it, I was so in love with Anna and T.J. I needed everyone I knew to love them too! I seriously can’t wait to read her next book Covet that isn’t out until late next year *cries*

2. Huntley Fitzpatrick – My Life Next Door was one of my favorite books of 2012 and I couldn’t believe this was the only book available by this author. Jase may be my current book boyfriend j/s I’m definitely looking forward to more from Ms. Fitzpatrick

3. Tammara Webber – Easy… you all read Easy right? Lucas… tattooed, pierced, motorcycle driving bad boy? After reading Easy, I headed over to check out her other series Between the Lines and found that I really liked it as well! Definitely deserves a spot on my favorite list! I can’t wait to see what she has coming next!

4.  Ruthie Knox – You saw my post yesterday right? My favorite contemporary romance author right now.  Not only does she recommend good stuff, she writes the best stuff. Start with Ride With Me and then read About Last Night and then check out her Christmas Anthology and then… well, you’re gonna have to wait, because even though I have ARC’s of her next two books they aren’t out until next year… you will want to read these!

5.  Sarah J. Maas – Throne of Glass. That is all.  No.. I’m just kidding – But seriously, I absolutely loved this book about 18 year old assassin Celaena Sardothien and you will too. I can’t wait for the next in the series. Plus, I got to hang out a bit with her at SDCC and omg she’s one of the loveliest people I met this year.

6.  Leigh Bardugo – Shadow and Bone you guys… It opened up a whole new book world for me.  Even if you’ve never read a fantasy genre book, you need to read this one, it will change your whole thought process. The world building, the character building, the fact that I  love the bad guy… it’s enough to make you rethink everything.   oh .. and hey – this is going to be a movie. I’ve picked my Mal & Darkling!

7.  Elsie Chapman – I was dying to get my hands on the debut book by this author, Dualed, and I was one of the lucky ones.  Dualed isn’t even out until Feb of 2013 and I’m already tapping my foot for book two.  I mean, imagine a world where you have to basically kill your twin. (being a twin maybe this is easier for me? LOL)  I absolutely loved the book and I know everyone else is going to as well!  BTW  – I have a giveaway for the ARC here on the blog!

8.  John Green – Don’t give me dirty looks – I know… I hadn’t ever read anything by John Green before this year. Of course I started with The Fault in Our Stars.  I quickly purchased a few more! I love his style, I love his words, I love his characters… I’m going to be rereading TFiOS next week! Join me?

9.  Katja Millay – The Sea of Tranquility is another top book of 2012 for me and I fell in love with the story that Ms. Millay has weaved.  From the very first page of this book, I had a hard time putting it down.  I read it over a 24 hour period while I was traveling and adored every thing about it.  I can’t wait to see what might be next for Ms. Millay and us readers.

10. Jill Shalvis – Oh .. hey… Hi Jill! I am in love with Lucky Harbor.  That is all I can say. If you’re looking for a sweet, lovely, minimal angst, romantic story… you could probably pick up anything by Jill and have a winner.  I started with Lucky Harbor and loved each and every book in the series, then I picked up her Animal Magnetism series and I swear the men just keep getting hotter. (is that possible?)  Seriously, I know if it’s a Jill Shalvis book, I am going to walk away happy with my pick because I’ve never been disappointed with any of her stories – If you haven’t read anything of hers yet, get to it… she’s got tons to pick from!

Tell me who your favorites of 2012 are in the comments or link me to your list! I’d love to see it!!
