Review: Prodigy (Legend #2)

January 30, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Prodigy (Legend, #2)Prodigy by Marie Lu
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So… I’m lame and totally forgot to write up this review. I mean… I absolutely loved this book, so I’m not entirely sure how that happened!!! And… turns out I read this last August, so I’m going back to my notes and going to try and make sense of them! LOL

Prodigy, the second book in the Legend series was among my favorite books last year. I know that for sure! If you haven’t picked this series up, then do so immediately. You will be pulled into the world of the Republic and the lives of June and Day.

So… here were my status updates

“GAH!! I want to quote things but I wont *gets out flaggy things for real books* lol”

“I love the dialogue ESP Day’s I can just hear him talking with the yeahs I love it!!”

“Ugh if what I think is going to happen happens I’m gonna cry”

“Um… Eff you Tess for serious”

“*crying all the tears*”

As June and Day arrive in Vegas, the Elector Primo dies which puts his son Anden in charge. Joining a group of rebels, Day is eager to go find his brother and rescue him, but the only way it will happen is if they assassinate Anden.

Day and June set in place a plan but June soon realizes that things aren’t as they expected or as they appear and the rebels she’s working with aren’t either.

One thing I can say about this book is that there is non-stop action from one chapter to the next the pacing is wonderfully done and the world building is incredible. We get more background of the actual story, how and why the country was divided and we even get information on the Colonies.

June as a character has grown exponentially in this series from the first day we met her in Legend and her struggle with her feelings for Day and how they could possibly play out in the future were well written. She isn’t sure they have a future because of their backgrounds, but she knows she cares deeply for him.

Enter Anden…the new Elector, who has definite interest in her from the very beginning and she again struggles to decide if it would just be easier, but he also reveals that he isn’t quite who they think he is. I’m interested to see how his role plays out in the next book for sure.

Day… I adore him. The Republic destroyed his family and so he is determined to do his part to make things better. Tess makes her appearance and as you can see from my comments about her she made me angry! *understatement* His trust and care for Tess allowed her to influence his thoughts about June and at times I wanted to shake him and tell him to open his eyes to what Tess was really doing.

But don’t get me wrong… the romance isn’t the basis of this story. I love that it’s there but you could easily remove it and still have an incredibly compelling story, and that my friends is how you do it!

The cast of secondary characters were also amazingly written… Razor and Kaede, Metias and Thomas… I mean AHHHHHH the story that is revealed about Thomas and Metias

But what made this an incredible read, were all the twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. By the end of the book I was reeling… wondering what Lu had done. My heart was pounding and I’m positive I had tears in my eyes.

not the pretty kind of tears either

I’m waiting… I can’t even pretend that I’ll be patient either, for the next book in the series.

If you’re looking for something dystopian that has incredible world building with wonderfully written characters I highly recommend this series. It has something for everyone… suspense… romance… action. This is out now, so I hope you’ve purchased it and are reading it right now! I know I’ll be picking up my own copy very soon!
