REVIEW: Crave The Night by Lara Adrian

CRAVE THE NIGHT
By: Lara Adrian
Publication Date: August 5, 2014

Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.

ABOUT LARA
As a child, Lara Adrian used to sleep with the covers up around her neck, afraid she might become the midnight prey of deadly vampires. Later on, under the influence of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice, she had to wonder if her fear wasn’t actually something else: a secret desire to walk in a darker world, to live a dangerous and sensual dream with a man of seductive, preternatural power. It is that twining of fear and desire that fuels Lara’s own fantasies today, and the idea that she explores in her New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series of vampire romance novels from Bantam Dell Books.

With an ancestry stretching back to the Mayflower and the court of King Henry VIII, Lara Adrian lives with her husband in coastal New England, surrounded by centuries-old graveyards, hip urban comforts, and the endless inspiration of the broody Atlantic Ocean.

Jaime’s Thoughts
Crave The Night by Lara Adrian
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nathan is one of the most lethal vampires around… he was born and raised to be a killer and show no mercy and now he’s using those skills in working for the Breed. And he’s good at what he does. Jordana has lived a life of privilege and there are certain expectations of her because of it. Despite how much they try to deny the attraction they feel for each other they just can’t seem to forget the sizzling chemistry that is between them, and Jordana just might end up being the key to Nathan’s current mission.

I adore the Midnight Breed Series – I know a few people weren’t all that excited about this new incarnation that began with the last book, but I am so glad these are continuing and I’ll read every single one until she stops writing them. What do I love about these books?

The Heroes – In this installment, we have Nathan – the brooding, sexy, kick-ass guy with the damaged past …

“The massive Breed warrior was a study in darkness and intensity, from the severe cut of his military-style ebony hair, to the impossibly broad shoulders that topped a body honed of pure muscle and powerful, deadly menace.”

So okay… maybe I like dangerous, sexy guys… I can’t help it. You won’t be able to either once you get to know Nathan more.

The Heroines – Jordana is strong in her own way, and I actually really enjoyed her as a character. She has all these expectations on her shoulders and she doesn’t want to disappoint anyone but she also knows that she wants to be happy and isn’t ready to settle in life for the things her father wants for her.

“But sometimes I’m afraid I’ll never be the daughter he wants me to be. I’m terrified I’m going to wake up one day and realize I no longer want the things he thinks are best for me.”

Adrian always gives us readers a book filled with tons of action and a rock-solid plot that will keep you engrossed in the story and characters on the page. But let’s not forget the steam! You’re practically guaranteed it when you pick up a book by Lara Adrian, and she does an amazing job with the chemistry between all her couples and these two… so hot. The tension between them is palpable and when they finally do cave in to their feelings, you’ll be fanning yourself a little bit.

I have to say that this series is probably my favorite of all the PNR that is out there. If you haven’t started the Midnight Breed books – go back and grab them, start from the beginning and enjoy each and every one. One of these days I’m going to go back and reread them all, that’s just how good they are!

Thank you to Edelweiss & Delacorte Press for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!
