Review: Along Came Trouble

December 21, 2012 by Jaime 1 Comment

Along Came TroubleAlong Came Trouble by Ruthie Knox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You all know I love Ruthie Knox and her writing. I’m not going to keep telling you all how you should immediately go purchase everything you can by her and read it … now.

I was lucky enough to be approved for the galley of Along Came Trouble. A new series featuring the Clark family. This time we meet Caleb, who is back home after being deployed in Iraq, now working as a civilian, starting his own security company, but also trying to juggle his family.

We also get to meet Ellen Callahan, a divorced, single mother, but also the sister to a very popular and famous rock star. When the press realizes that her brother is in love with her next door neighbor, who happens to be very pregnant, they descend on Camelot.

Caleb is hired to protect not only Carly, but Ellen and Henry… and it’s not going to be an easy job. Ellen has set certain boundaries and Caleb seems to infringe on all of them and eventually they can’t deny the chemistry between them.

Of course Ellen is bound and determined NOT to fall for Caleb Clark and she makes herself perfectly clear that this is just a fling for her… scratching an itch. Caleb isn’t quite so sure.

You know, you don’t actually have to try this hard to impress me. I already slept with you twice.”

“I know, but we skipped all the early dates, and I could really use one of those third-date neck massages.”

“The kind where we watch a movie and then I move back behind you on the couch and rub your shoulders, and you offer to take off your shirt to make it easier, and then before we know quite what happened, we’re making out?”

“Exactly. But don’t skimp on the massaging. I have to be seduced slowly, like I don’t really want it.”

“I think you’ve got our roles reversed.”

Caleb flashed her another smile. “Do I?”

“You know, you could just ask me for a massage. She pried the lid off the vanilla ice cream.

He shook his head. “I swear, Ellen, it’s like you don’t want to be courted.”

“Right. I don’t want to be courted.”

Knox really has a way of making what seems like a typical romance seem fresh and new and she once again does it here with Along Came Trouble.

The only thing that didn’t really work for me was the side story of Jamie and Carly. At times I felt like I was reading two different stories in this one book, and I almost feel like their story, would make a very good companion to this one. Expanding on their story and really giving us the full picture would totally work as a separate book possibly released prior to this one. I just think that there was more potential there for whole additional story, and within Caleb and Ellen’s story we didn’t get the full picture and had to piece together a lot of their situation.

But seriously, you can’t go wrong with Ruthie Knox and when this comes out, rush to pick it up…. in the meantime, go get all her other stuff and read!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Loveswept for the galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
