Readalongs!! Tell Us What You Think & Join In!!

August 5, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

We don’t know about you, but there is just something about reading a book at the same time as a bunch of friends.  Being able to chat and flail and argue and complain to each other just makes the experience so much fun!!

If you were following along a couple weeks ago, you noticed that we did a readalong with The Fictionators, for one of our favorite books here at Fic Fare, The Sea of Tranquility.  It’s a book that we can’t get enough of, and we wanted to share that love with everyone we know!  We had such an amazing time. We gave a couple copies away, shared our favorite quotes, and we chatted about everything!

We realized that there were tons of other books that we had read, that we had enjoyed, and that we wanted to share that same kind of love for with everyone.  So we’ve decided to make the Readalongs something of a permanent thing around here.

We’re going to try to do it once a month. Notice I said try.  It’s our goal anyway, but I can’t always promise that that will happen simply because life has to come first and our schedules may not all sync up at times.

We don’t expect everyone to participate on all the days, (though we’d love it!)  not at all… but we are hoping that you will join us for some of it… commenting and quoting whenever you can simply adding the chosen hashtag so everyone can follow along!

We do have a facebook group where most of the major discussions will happen, if you’re on facebook, we’d love for you to join in!

Now for the  next readalong details:

What: The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
When: August 20-22nd 8pm CST – 10pm CST
Why: because Joe Fontaine of course… lol kidding – we love this story so much!

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Lennie Walker, bookworm and band geek, plays second clarinet and spends her time tucked safely and happily in the shadow of her fiery older sister, Bailey. But when Bailey dies abruptly, Lennie is catapulted to center stage of her own life – and, despite her nonexistent history with boys, suddenly finds herself struggling to balance two. Toby was Bailey’s boyfriend; his grief mirrors Lennie’s own. Joe is the new boy in town, a transplant from Paris whose nearly magical grin is matched only by his musical talent. For Lennie, they’re the sun and the moon; one boy takes her out of her sorrow, the other comforts her in it. But just like their celestial counterparts, they can’t collide without the whole wide world exploding.

This remarkable debut is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, and Francesca Lia Block. Just as much a celebration of love as it is a portrait of loss, Lennie’s struggle to sort her own melody out of the noise around her is always honest, often hilarious, and ultimately unforgettable.

We will be having a huge giveaway for this one – we have 5 copies of The Sky is Everywhere to give to people who participate!

We hope that you’ll join us when you can!

We’ll be picking a September book soon, so please share any suggestions you might have in the comments!!
