March 4: Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

March 4, 2014 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome and wonderful people over at The Broke and The Bookish

This week we talk about popular authors that we’ve never read.  Between both Erin and I we came up with a list of ten!  It’s so weird to make this list, mostly because as you’ll see, there isn’t really any reason why we haven’t read these authors… especially me (jaime) as I own books by all of these authors.  (Please note that I have read 3 of the authors on Erin’s list! LOL)

Jaime’s List

Patrick Ness
I have had Patrick Ness books on my to read list forever, I even went to a book signing of his a couple of weeks ago so now I own SIGNED, unread books by Mr. Ness and I really need to get my butt in gear and just read them already.  On my list are The Chaos Walking Trilogy and More Than This.

Simone Elkeles
Simone Elkeles has been on my radar for a while now, but I just haven’t read anything for some reason.  I’ve heard a lot of people rave about The Perfect Chemistry series and so I put them on my to read list then, but I got Wild Cards at BEA last year and I just haven’t read it yet.

Victoria Schwab
I’ve heard amazing things about Vicious and The Archived… I even own a signed copy of The Archived, and I don’t know why I haven’t read it.  I must remedy this soon.

Susane Colasanti
I own a lot of Susane’s books… I want to read them, they all sound exactly like stories I’m going to love so I don’t know why I haven’t read them yet.

Ned Vizzini
I purchased The Other Normals shortly after BEA last year because I read the back of a display copy and I felt like it was something I would absolutely love.  As happens quite often with my bookshelves I put the book on it and it got pushed to the back and forgotten.  When organizing a couple of weeks ago, I pulled it off and set it to the side. It is my plan to read The Other Normals very soon.  I also have heard that I should read It’s Kind Of A Funny Story, so I plan to.

Erin’s List

Sarah Dessen
YES – I know…people can’t believe that I have never read any Sarah Dessen books.  It isn’t for any reason other than the fact that Contemporary isn’t always “my thing” so I just haven’t gotten to them yet.  There are a number of her books on my To Read shelf though and I know Jaime likes a number of them so perhaps they will be on deck soon.

Cinda Williams Chima
I had the pleasure of meeting Cinda Williams Chima when she came to Milwaukee and immediately purchased the first two books of the Seven Realms series.  I have heard great things about these books and of course, they are Fantasy so that makes me almost love them without reading them.  I honestly don’t know why I haven’t cracked these open yet – I have a feeling that I may need to make them a priority as they will fit right in with our Real Books Challenge.

Ellen Hopkins
The books Ellen Hopkins writes make me nervous.  They take on some serious topics and I absolutely will work my way up to them someday soon but I think I have to be in a specific mood to begin one and I don’t know if I’m there yet.

Tamara Ireland Stone
Everyone I know who has read the Time Between Us series has absolutely loved them.  Jaime always tells me how good they are and I have no excuse as to why I haven’t picked them up yet.  Seriously, nothing at all.

Melina Marchetta
I know people who really love Melina Marchetta’s books and some that have struggled with them.  I know the Lumatere Chronicles have great ratings and they have been on my To Read list for a while.  I think part of the reason why I haven’t started these yet is because I know some people that have struggled with Marchetta’s books.  I also think I have to be in the mood to read these back to back if I’m going to do it because everyone knows how impatient I am….right??

Are there any authors who are on the popular list but that you haven’t read yet?  Have you read books by our list of authors? Let us know in the comments!
