Flashback Friday: March 28, 2014

March 28, 2014 by Jaime Leave a Comment

What is Flashback Friday you ask?

I know… I know… As if you don’t have a million and one memes to follow! BUT we’re hoping that you might want to participate in just one more!

If you’re like us, you read a lot… you add a ton to your ‘to be read’ lists and you sometimes forget about some amazing things because they get pushed down either your favorites list or that pile of books you need to read.  That doesn’t mean those books are no less amazing!

This is a way for us to highlight books that are older that maybe don’t get as much recognition now because they have been out for a while.  Books that we read and loved or books that have been on our To Be Read lists for ages, but we just haven’t gotten around to them yet.

On to the details – Pick a book… any book that meets the following criteria:

1.  Must have been published at least 2 years ago or
2.  Preferably is still in print or available to read

Grab our button or make your own then simply feature it on your blog… See the example below, and then come back here and link us up!! AND Spread the word!!

GOING TOO FAR
By: Jennifer Echols
Publication Date: March 17, 2009

This is one of the only books I’ve read by this author, but I still remember liking it very much… I don’t know why I haven’t picked up anything else by her… I think that’s going to change because I do have Such A Rush on my bookshelf.  I think I just really enjoyed the characters in this story … and I guess maybe I liked John more than Meg but I have my reasons.  This was just a great overall read for me! Check it out if you haven’t already!

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far…and almost doesn’t make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won’t soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won’t be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge — and over….

THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH
By: Carrie Ryan
Publication Date: February 9, 2010

You all know me by now and the fact that I enjoy a good horror/zombie book once in a while should not come as a surprise.  This is a series and I admit that I haven’t finished the other books but this was one that I picked up and was unable to put it down until I turned the very last page.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1)

Summary
In Mary’s world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

NEVER HAVE I EVER
by Alisha Rai
Published December 14th 2010
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons.  I love PNR, and I especially love when the story is about shifters.  Wolves in particular.  Alisha Rai does a great job of painting a picture of a married couple who is struggling for several reasons.  Both the hero and heroine are hiding something from each other, and oh my… the things that happen when they get away to reconnect.  And man, do they connect.  It’s super steamy, and a fast-paced read I didn’t want to put down.
Ana Hudson enjoys her picture-perfect marriage to the love of her life. Everything is pleasant, easy—and satisfying. Then an anonymous e-mail arrives filled with lurid pictures of Taylor’s youthful exploits, leaving her wondering if she really knows him at all. More importantly…does she know herself?

Driven to uncover the truth and push the limits of their sexual boundaries, she convinces Taylor to arrange a weekend getaway to a friend’s luxury cottage in the mountains. It’s the perfect place to get her husband to spill his secrets—and show him there’s a wealth of kinky fantasies hiding inside his good girl.

Taylor’s spent years suppressing his animalistic side, hiding the not-completely-human DNA that once drove him wild. Except now his once quiet, reserved Ana has launched a campaign to destroy every inch of his hard-won control.

With the snowy wilderness containing his darkest memories surrounding them, and his old pack-mate dropping in to give them a few pointers, the sexual battle of wills gets fierce.

Let the games begin.
