Bringing YA To You!!

January 2, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

Have you ever wished that a big YA book tour would make a stop in your hometown? Well, here’s your chance for that wish to come true! YA2U is a program that features five award-winning and best-selling authors who are holding a contest to see what city they should visit in an exclusive tour stop!

The authors are collecting votes from January 1 to February 15, and any city in the continental US or any Canadian city that has an international airport can win an exclusive visit from all five authors, including an author panel and book signing! Entering is super easy–and if you help spread the word about the contest, you can also enter win a signed copy of all of their books (TEN signed books in total!)–and the book contest is open internationally!

The authors in the program are:

  • Marie Lu, the New York Times best-selling author of Legend and the upcoming Prodigy
  • Marissa Meyer, the New York Times best-selling author of Cinder and the upcoming Scarlet
  • Beth Revis, the New York Times best-selling author of Across the Universe, A Million Suns, and the upcoming Shades of Earth
  • Victoria Schwab, author of The Near Witch and the highly-anticipated upcoming The Archived
  • Megan Shepherd, author of the debut novel The Madman’s Daughter

And they want to have an event in your home town! To participate, just go to the YA2U website and let them know what city you want them to come to. And while you’re there, help spread the word about the contest and you can be entered to win all of their books–TEN signed books in total!

Here’s why the YA2U Team should come to MY hometown!

I live in a suburb of Milwaukee… come on… you know Milwaukee!!

Things Milwaukee is probably most known for:
Beer – Check
Cheese – Check
Harley Davidson – Check
Summerfest – Check
Laverne & Shirley – Check
The Fonz – Check
Milwaukee Art Museum – Check
YA Author Visits…. *sigh*
The bonus and the drawback to living in Milwaukee is that we are only a short distance to Chicago.  Bonus because it’s not THAT much of a trek for me to head to a bigger city. Drawback because usually if something big and exciting is happening (AUTHOR TOURS) they are heading there and not here.  Which means if I want to go, I really have to plan, and most times that isn’t possible as a single mom.
I’ve recently started taking my soon to be 7 year old to the library, hoping to instill a love of books and reading in him.  So far so good, but I’m hoping that as he gets older it continues and isn’t just a fascination with something new.  Right now, it’s the best day ever when we head to our local library and he can scour the shelves to find books on topics that he gets to pick out all on his own.
The West Allis Public Library (the local library where I live) has changed in so many ways since I was child, and they do a wonderful job of making the library a fun place for kids, teens and adults. They have a special teen section on their website and a blog dedicated to reviewing YA books… BUT I selfishly want more.  I would love the library to become a place where teens can’t wait for the next time they can go. I think that having author visits a regular thing there would make that a reality.  I know as an adult I’m star struck by simply catching a glimpse of my favorite authors… imagine if you could stand next to them and have your picture taken, even have a short conversation and get a signed book!  Being able to tell an author what their writing has meant to me has been incredibly gratifying as I’ve had the opportunity to meet quite a few over the past year, but imagine being a teen/young adult who can’t travel… who can’t make that 2 hour trip to that bigger city.
Aside from the reasons above, I think Milwaukee has some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet! Make us feel worthy and come to ‘The Good Land’! I hope you’ll consider Milwaukee as your destination for this tour!

Why should the YA2U Team come to your hometown? Why not join in the fun today and share with others about this program and your hometown. The more votes your town gets, the closer you are to having your very own personal tour stop! Vote for YOUR town here!
And if you help spread the word, you can also participate in the book giveaway. Tell them that you learned about YA2U from me and we both get extra entries in the contest!
