Adventure's in Captain Hudson Miller’s blood. For the past ten years, he's spent his days in the sky, serving as a pilot for the Army. But where adventure called him away, something—someone—else is calling him home. On post-deployment leave, he escapes to the one place he hasn’t been since he enlisted: Havenbrook, Mississippi. Hometown of his momma’s peach cobbler, enough memories to last a lifetime, and the only girl who ever left an imprint on his heart.

Mackenna Haven thought she'd have her life figured out by now. Instead, she's a twenty-seven-year-old college drop out who works at her soon-to-be brother-in-law's bar and lives on her parents' land. No husband or kids to her name. Not even a consistent weekend booty call. She's been pretending she's happy working dead-end jobs in an even deader-end town, but she can't stop thinking she was meant for more than this.

After a childhood as best friends and a single weekend exploring more, Mackenna and Hudson haven't seen each other in ten years. But they made a pact that long ago weekend, and Hudson's coming to make good on his promise. Except she has no interest in it or him. After all, he walked away from her once already, and she's not interested in opening her heart and allowing him a second chance at destruction.

If you haven’t started this series yet and you’re a Contemporary Romance fan, I can’t even tell you how much you need to get moving on this!  First of all – small towns… second of all – SWOONY guys… third of all – sisterly love!!

Havenbrook is the town I wish really existed in real life! I love the idea of small towns where everyone knows everyone and every guy out there is drop-dead gorgeous – but seriously.  I can’t wait to meet the rest of the town if I’m being honest!

This book hits on two of my favorite tropes-  Second Chance Romance and Friends to More!  I love when characters who have a history together end up falling in love and Walsh takes it a bit further for my reading tastes by having had these two start something years ago that went nowhere! I just loved every second of it.

I’m going to start with Hud because … well, who wouldn’t.  Walsh can write heroes like no other – I fall in love with each and every one of them. Hud is pursuing the dream his father had and giving up a lot to do so.  That’s not to say he regrets it, just that he misses his family and the town … and Kenna.  But he’s also not a quitter so the struggle to figure out what the future holds for him is real.

Kenna isn’t sure where exactly she fits in.  She feels very much like a failure and that she has little to no direction … and even worse, she feels like her family sees her  as such and so she’s bending over backward to prove she can do anything and everything she’s asked. She  doesn’t recognize all the things that she does amazingly well and there is a ton that she does well!

These two have a history as I mentioned and I love that they grew up together… that added history always just adds a layer of extra feels for me and honestly this story had me just drowning in feels!  Hud with his mom… gah – I can only hope that my son and I have that kind of relationship as he grows older.  I loved how when Mac was frustrated with something Hud did she didn’t just internalize it and get mad… she got mad and talked to him about it and explained to make sure he saw how what he did affected her.  Add all that up and throw in the hooooot sexy times and I don’t even know why you’re reading this instead of reading this book.

Walsh has created a wonderful small-town romance that has captivating characters, a family full of drama and love, and swoons to fill your heart to the brim!  Oh… and the sexy times … don’t forget those!

Okay… now for the part you’re waiting for – Click below to read  the NC-17 excerpt!

Mac’s panties were at dangerous risk of catching on fire. In fact, she wouldn’t be surprised if she looked down and found her jeans had combusted right along with them. But of course, she couldn’t look down—not when Hudson was kissing her like she was oxygen and he was cresting water for the first time in an eternity.

There was no denying the heat that still crackled between them. They were hot and hungry, hands grasping and pulling. Tugging and cupping and squeezing, and she was barely sane enough to quiet the whisper in her mind that begged her to strip right there in the middle of the woods and take him deep inside her. Let him love her like that, even if he hadn’t loved her enough to stay.

“Kenna,” he breathed, his mouth trailing over her jaw and down her neck. He cupped her breasts in both palms, lifting and squeezing, his thumbs plucking her nipples and sending jolts of electricity straight to her clit.

Lord almighty, she was needy for him. Needy and wet and absolutely aching to feel him filling her up. Feel his hands inside her panties, his fingers separating her, his tongue licking straight up her center.

“Hud,” she panted in response, her fingers thrust through his short hair, his hat long gone on the forest floor.

Needing to get closer, desperate to relieve the incessant throb in her center, she hooked her leg around his hip, and he groaned into her neck. And then suddenly, she was in the air, her feet off the ground as both his hands gripped just below her ass.

“Need to feel you…” he rasped into her neck.

She certainly wasn’t going to disagree, desperate to feel him too. Wrapping her legs around him, she tugged him closer, groaning into his mouth when the hard, thick ridge of his cock pressed up against her.

And then, without thought, she began to rock. Her hips started up a rhythm all on their own, a rough slide that had him groaning her name and dropping his forehead to her shoulder as he grasped her thighs.

“Christ, do you know how many times I’ve thought about this?” His voice was thick and rough and so damn needy she could hardly breathe. “How many times I imagined you ridin’ my cock just like this? Rubbin’ that hot little pussy all over me?” He guided her harder against him, pinning her to the tree trunk as he swiveled his hips into the cradle of her thighs. “Except when I think about it, there aren’t any goddamn clothes between us. Nothing stoppin’ me from lickin’ up all your sweetness. Nothing gettin’ in the way of you soakin’ my dick.”

She choked out a sob, her eyes squeezing shut as the orgasm slammed into her without warning, his words, along with the incessant rocking of his cock against her, igniting the flame inside her and turning her body into an inferno.

Unable to do anything but pant through her release, she clung to Hudson as he kept up the rhythm, using his hands to move her just like he wanted. Prolonging her pleasure…as well as increasing his torture, if the rough groans coming from his chest were any indication.

When she finally felt like she could catch her breath and had safely settled back into her body after her orgasm blew her straight into the clouds, she held him tighter, clutching his head to her chest. She pressed her mouth against his ear, brushing her bottom lip along the shell and delighting in the groan that sounded as if it were ripped from his chest. Delighting in the way his fingers dug into the flesh of her ass even harder. In the way he rocked her faster and faster against him.

In that moment, their history didn’t matter. Her heart didn’t ache for the man who’d gone missing from her life, because he was there now. He was there with her, pressed as close as they could get without him being inside her, and she wanted to live in that moment with him forever. Wanted to leave everything else—all the baggage they had—behind and just revel in this.

About Brighton Walsh

Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before deciding to take her storytelling in a different direction and reconnect with her first love: writing. When she’s not pounding away at the keyboard, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and two children, and, yes, she considers forty degrees to be hoodie weather. Her home is the setting for frequent dance parties, Lego battles, and more laughter than she thought possible. Visit her online at brightonwalsh.com.
