Book Bangin’ – Introductions

July 31, 2013 by Jaime Leave a Comment

The lovely Kelly over at Belle of the Literati decided to start a monthly feature called Book Bangin’ and of course we decided to participate. Not only is it about something we love to talk about but we always have a lot to say about it.  Each month will have a topic and we get to “discuss, brag, fangirl, swoon, exclaim, freak out, and talk about ALL THE FEELS” over our favorite boys for that topic.  You know that this is one of our favorite things to talk about so without further ado, we will hop right in.

July’s prompt is an introduction.  We are introducing ourselves and sharing with you our top book boyfriends of all time.  We decided to stick with our top 5. You know, the list you would have laminated like Ross did on Friends…to make it all official like.

So…book boyfriends are a topic of conversation amongst our group quite often.  I believe there is a spreadsheet floating around somewhere documenting who has who on their list. For this introduction, we made the decision to narrow our list down to five (ok – you may find an extra here or there) so that we didn’t have the worlds longest lists but these are the guys that don’t really ever move.

This man plays rugby, paints and can talk dirty with the best of them.  I have a thing for guys with British accents so throw that in and I am completely sold.  Nev is swoony and perfect and I love him and want one of my own.

For real, I don’t know if this guy exists in real life but if not, I will make do with finding him in the pages of my copy of The Sea of Tranquility.  He’s smart, builds things, is funny/sarcastic/witty, and is SUPER SWOONY.

I will just leave this quote here:
“It’s a chair. Stop overanalyzing it. I’m not selling it and I’m not giving it to someone else.  I made it for you. It’ yours.”…

He pushes Celaena to be better and respects her abilities.  I admit, the build up of their relationship is about half the reason why I love him. The other half is just because he cares so much and always says the right thing…whether it is chasing down a piece of chocolate cake or just dancing with Celaena it doesn’t matter.  Chaol makes me swoon and that is all.

Protective, smart, handsome…Finn from The Cahill Witch Chronicles series makes my list. I loved him in book one for just being lovely but book two secured his spot on my list.  He is perfect and I will give you a quote from the conservatory scene in Star Cursed to show you a snippet of the swoons.

“You worry about what the prophecy means for them, but I worry about you, Cate. Someone’s got to. You’d sacrifice yourself in a second to keep them safe. You’d sacrifice us.”
His words land there between us, a reminder that I already have.
“I don’t know if I could do it again,” I say truthfully. “I know being here is dangerous for you. I should send you away, but I don’t want to give you up. It’s selfish of me.”

“Good. Be selfish.” Finn’s mouth claims mine in a searing kiss, and my mind empties of everything except his hands, his lips, his tongue.

See Jaime’s quote below…it’s ok, I’ll wait for you to scroll down and back.  I will always be an Adam girl…no matter how much Tahereh Mafi made me appreciate Warner.  He is swoony and love, love, loves Juliet. His protectiveness (I’m seeing a trend here…) and desire to be good and make a difference make me love him.
Favorite bad guy

I had to do it…I had to include one of the “bad guys” because let’s be honest, he is the reason I loved Shadow & Bone.  Some people latched on to Mal and I will say, he definitely stepped it up in Seige & Storm but The Darkling just does something for me.  I know he’s bad and he is up to no good but good lord, Leigh Bardugo has won me over with him regardless of what he wants to do…I really don’t care. He’s dangerous and sexy and up to no good but he made the cut.

So for my guy introductions … (yes I said my GUYS) instead of giving you paragraphs of opinions on why I have picked these guys as my top 5 (okay so that’s a looooooose number) I decided to share with you the why in actual quotes from the books.  The things that made me swoon and fall for them.

“You have to kiss me,” I find myself saying.

“Yeah.” He leans closer. “I do.”

or there’s this.

“Um. So … Are we going to study?

Jase slides his thumbs behind my ears, rubbing the hollow at their base. He’s only inches from my face, still looking into my eyes. “You bet. I’m studying you.”

“Why do you care?” I whisper.

For a second I think he didn’t hear me because I’m facing away from him, his arms still wrapped around my shoulders, but then he says, “Because I care about you.” I close my eyes for one second and let myself feel those words, feel him.

“You know I meant it. I am human. And male. And not remotely blind. Do you want me to say it again? You are distractingly, even if-that-is-not-a-real-word pretty. You are so pretty that I bullied Clay Whitaker into drawing me a picture of you so I could look at you when you aren’t around. You are so pretty that one of these days I’m going to lose a finger in my garage because I can’t concentrate with you so close to me. You are so pretty that I wish you weren’t so I wouldn’t want to hit every guy at school who looks at you, especially my best friend.”

Perry

His eyes were heavy with desire, but she saw something else. A gleam that made her suspicious.

“What?” she asked.

His hands slid to her hips. “You’re incredible.”

“That’s not what you were thinking.”

“Was so. I always think that.” He leaned in twisting a strand of her hair around his finger as he kissed her bottom lip. “But I was also wondering what you were doing around Butter today.”

Aria laughed. That was attractive. She smelled like horse. “Do you ever miss anything?”

Perry smiled. “You, all the time.”

Roar

“Here, love.”

“I’m fine.”

“Well, I’m not. I’m scared. Take my hand?”

She humors me – I never fall – but I get what I want: her hand in mine. An excuse to feel a bit of her strength as we make our way down the hill. And a window into her thoughts.

(meg is going to kill me for this but I can’t pick one)

Adam

“He whispers, “You have no idea how much I’ve thought about you. How many times I’ve dreamt”-he takes a tight breath- “how many times I’ve dreamt about being this close to you.” He moves to run a hand through his hair before he changes his mind. Looks down. Looks up. “God, Juliette, I’d follow you anywhere. You’re the only good thing left in this world.”

Warner –

“I want so many things,” he whispers. “I want your mind. Your strength. I want to be worth your time.” His fingers graze the hem of my top and he says “I want this up.” He tugs on the waist of my pants and says “I want these down.” He touches the tips of his fingers to the sides of my body and says, “I want to feel your skin on fire. I want to feel your heart racing next to mine and I want to know it’s racing because of me, because you want me. Because you never,” he says, he breathes, “never want me to stop. I want every second. Every inch of you. I want all of it.”

So…who are your top 5? Do you have anyone on your list that hit our lists? Tell us what you think! And stay tuned for next month where we’ll have a topic and most likely chat with the girls over at Swoony Boys Podcast about this!
